[THE BOOKS OF EXODUS AND LEVITICUS] closed
Have you ever been up at 9am contemplating passages like Leviticus 11:21-23 “…some flying insects that walk on all fours you may eat…23 But all other flying insects that have four legs you are to regard as unclean…” or even better reading the shocking Deut 25:11-12 and wondered, “WAIT! What did I just read? What relevance does this have today? How does this point me to Christ and help me understand the gospel? Well you’re in luck, this 9AM small group is for you!

In this small group we will be following the church wide reading plan looking at Exodus and Leviticus! We will be using the podcasts “Lamb of God” By: Nancy Guthrie from RightNow Media (free access will be provided). The podcasts will take us through Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers & Deuteronomy, showing us how Christ is revealing himself to us. The podcasts will help guide us as we read through Exodus and Leviticus. Take this excerpt from Chapter 8: Sacrifice & Sanctification:
“We might, at first, wonder why we need to study the details of these sacrifices, since we know that Christ put an end to the sacrificial system by fulfilling it. But studying Leviticus helps us to see the breadth and fullness of what Christ did for us in offering himself as a sacrifice for sin. In fact, without Leviticus we would not understand what the New Testament means when it says that Christ was a sacrifice for sin (p. 192).”

Exciting, right?? If you sign up, here are some things to expect:
1. Commit to attend meetings on time
2. Read & meditate on the passages
3. Pray for one another
4. Watch the weekly podcast (around 40 mins, watch it before coming) (free access will be provided)
5. Be prepared to participate

Unofficially: after the church service, be ready for a completely voluntary time of extreme board-gaming, this is your chance to fellowship, invite those around you (someone you meet at prayer time???), a new comer, friend, or just bring your beautiful self!

“Men and Women of God” Study Small Group – Learning to Pray through the Uncertainty

As our Body of Christ at New Harvest will focus on praying through the Word of God this year, this small group aims to focus on the stories of those who have gone before us in order to learn how to pray more effectively.

Just as we read along “The One Year Bible” reading plan, we will visit biblical characters like:

Sarah, Joseph, Jacob, Moses, Jesus, the Canaanite Woman, Aaron, Mary the Mother of Jesus, John the Baptist, David, and Rahab.

Through studying their lives and how God works in and through and for them, we will try to 1) learn how to walk the walk by applying their life stories in our prayer life, and 2) rekindle and grasp the hope and promises He gives us through their life stories.

To ensure safe and sound environment for our small group, members who’d like to join this small group will be asked to be committed to the following:
1) Sign up for the YouVersion Bible Reading Plan, “The One Year Bible” and be committed to reading faithfully the Word every day
2) Be prepared for the discussion of the week on each character study to take the ownership of the small group and honor each other’s commitment to grow
3) Be intentional about getting to know each other and learn from one anther
4) Be ready to step up to be delegated for different tasks that our small group will be engaging in
5) Help one another to remain prayerful throughout the term, by interceding for others and actively asking for prayers

[THE BOOKS OF PSALMS AND PROVERBS] closed
This term, as we begin once again a journey through the Bible, this group will focus on the meditations of Psalms and Proverbs. We will engage with the wisdom and truth lying in the Proverbs along with practicing how to praise, lament, rejoice, and cry out through the examples of the Psalms.
This group will not only focus on the Word and digging deeper into its truth, but also on the accountability and support that results from community. We will spend time each week getting to know each other better, sharing our burdens, and lifting each other up in prayer. Lastly, this group will challenge each member each week to apply the Word to their lives, receiving accountability and support in their new practices from their prayer partner of that week. We will meet in Grace chapel unless we decide as a group to meet elsewhere, in which case we would meet at a local coffee shop.

Happy New Year 2019 and welcome!

While we will be following our body’s one year Bible reading plan, the approach of the small group will be distinctive in that the focus of our weekly discussions is going to be on the book of Genesis and praying with Psalms. The hope is that this will help us deeply understand the underlining message of the first book of the Bible and seek together how to apply it to our lives individually and collectively. I desire that this small group will spur you to incorporate these weekly discussion with your daily bible reading/devotions. Another goal is that this small group will produce good friendships. We will have fun days where we can get to know each other and encourage each other in our daily lives!

If you are still at the basic foundation of your faith, this small group is for you. And if you are yearning for a deeper fellowship with God and people, this will be the right safe place to pursue it.

[OPEN SMALL GROUP]
Open Small Group will be studying the Gospel of Mark during the Spring Small Group Term. We will be using Francis Chan’s Gospel of Mark study from RightNow Media to facilitate our studies. Participants can review the material before, during, and after SG to make your study more effective.

Open SG is a very unique and seeker friendly SG. Open SG is the place where everyone is welcome. New to the church, fine. Not able to sign up for a SG, that’s ok. Not sure what a SG is, please come by and find out.

Open SG is also the place where if you are hurting and have nowhere to go that can always come by to study the Bible and be with other believers who want to be there for you.

People who sign up for this SG need to have a heart for those in NHM who are not in SG for whatever reason.

Open SG is essentially two SG in one. One part of the SG is for people who commit to faithfully come to this SG and be there for both the people who attend faithfully and for those who may be less consistent. If you are not ready to commit to this SG, then do not sign up, feel free to just show up.

The other part of this SG is for anyone else, with no commitment. People can drop in at any time and leave at any time. This may be difficult to accept for those who sign up and commit to our SG.

THIS SG IS PROBABLY NOT FOR YOU!!!

Here are reasons why this SG is not for you:
(1) SG size is not predictable and can get very large. People who like small groups and groups what do not change, do not join this SG as you will not be happy.
(2) You must be patient in having attendees come in and out and not be consistent. For those of your who can only share with people who you know very well, do not join this SG as you will be uncomfortable.
(3) You will not be able to get as much consistent attention compared to other “fixed” SG as the attention of the SG leader(s) will change depending on group size and other factors

Please join this SG if: (1) You are comfortable with meeting new people and ok with sharing with them (2) God has given you a burden to love those in NHM who have not been able to get plugged in and have a heart for those who have not been able to find a SG or church to call home (3) Have a giving mindset

Please note that if you sign up for this SG, you will be required to sign the SG covenant. Coming prepared and completing all the required readings is a given. In addition each member will be required to:
(1) Lead or co-lead for at least one session (2) Be prepared to listen, share, cry, and pray for each other (3) Developing relationships and strengthening community with your brothers and sisters at NHM (4) Having fun: sharing meals and enjoying Seoul together! We invite anyone who is committed to investing your energy, pain, and tears in our small group. This small group is not for everyone, so you must be aware of the commitment involve to be a part of this small group. NON-NATIVE ENGLISH SPEAKERS ARE HIGHLY ENCOURAGED TO JOIN this small group.

Please expect to: (1) Commit to attend our meetings on time
(2) Read and meditate on our readings
(3) Be prepared to participate in honest discussion on the readings and your lives
(4) Pray for one another

[MEN’S GROUP]
This is the Men’s Small Group for the Spring 2019 term. We will be studying the Gospel of Matthew this winter.

As a men’s small group, we will be looking at ways to grow as men of God within His church and the world. No topic of discussion will be off the table of discussion in our group, but we will primarily be focused on being servant leaders in our day to day lives.

The group will demand equal participation from all of its members. You will be expected to make questions from Matthew during the week and share them with the group. You are also expected to be able to attend each session unless you contact the leader beforehand. If you are traveling a lot this winter, then this group is not for you.

[ENGAGED AND MARRIED COUPLES]
This small group is for engaged and married couples to grow more in their faith in Christ as well as building each other up in the community. It is important to keep Christ as the center of our lives, especially in marriage. We know life can be tough and we hope through this small group we can help counsel each other and how to have a better marriage with your partner by being open about your struggles. We will be doing the Church Wide Bible Reading Plan together and learn to apply the word to our lives. We will focus on the first gospel book of Matthew. Matthew was one of the twelve apostles that were with Jesus throughout His public ministry on Earth. He saw His ministry firsthand while he was on Earth. Let’s dig deeper together and learn more about Jesus our true Messiah.

Expectations
1) Be on time for small group (If you are going to be late or miss small group, please let the leader know in advance as courtesy)
2) Read the Bible ahead of time for discussion plus take notes while you read
3) Do your best in small group (Reap what you sow)
4) Be respectful to others while they are talking
5) As a couple, you will be asked to lead once during the term
6) If you miss three times without prior notice, you will be asked to drop this small group. (It isn’t fair to the other members who come consistently.)
7) Sing praise and worship together (Depending on the room and location)
8) Have three fun days
9) Share our struggles and praying for one another
10) Give our individual testimonies as well as sharing how you met your spouse/spouse to be
11) Share briefly about anything you have read in the Bible for that week because there will be so many different books of the Bible we must read before the main discussion of one focused book.

Tuesdays

[ITAEWON] 2 spaces remaining as of SAT 1/12 @ 11am
As a church, we are reading through the whole Bible again this year. Is this your first time reading through the whole Bible? Did you follow the Bible reading plan last year? Either way, reading through the whole Bible is a big undertaking. As a small group, we will encourage each other and help each other to grow in faith as we read God’s word.

Do you want to simply read the words on the pages, or do you want the living Word of God to transform your heart and life?

As a small group, we will meet together and discuss the Scriptures covered from the previous week and share how God is using his Word to make us more like Jesus. We will share Bible study ideas and practices to help each other get the most out of our time in Scripture. We will worship and pray together each week. Members will be asked to share testimonies of how God has been working in their lives. Each member will be asked to facilitate one meeting and share different habits and strategies they use to hear and learn from God as we read through the Bible. Members will be encouraged to ask hard questions about our faith and we will share and learn from God’s word and each other. We will also have fun days and days of service. As a group, we will decide what to do based on our interests. A lot of us at NHM are far away from our families. This is an opportunity to engage with your brothers and sisters in Christ and experience the family that God creates in the body of Christ.

This group will meet in the leader’s home in Itaewon-dong near the Hyatt Hotel. From 6:30-8:30pm on Tuesday evenings. Please note there is a (nice) medium-sized dog in the home.

[BIBLE READING PLAN] closed
This group is for those who are committed to establishing a habit of a daily study of God’s Word in their own lives. Come with a passion to learn more about the Word, whether this is your first time reading through it or you have read it a hundred times before. We will talk a lot about personal application, so every member will need to actively share from their own experience. We will also do some meta-analysis about how our lives are changing as we daily get into the word and focus on community in Christ.

The church as a whole is pushing everyone to follow the Bible reading plan daily, but our members will commit to holding one another accountable for reading daily, finishing the assigned readings, and commenting in the group plans after reading. We hope everyone in the church will be doing this regardless, but this small group will set up further accountability to aid our members in fully realizing the potential of this amazing endeavor.

Our secondary focus will be on learning how to pray following the example found in God’s Word. We will learn a number of ways to pray scripture, something that is revolutionary for your personal prayer life.

If you think achieving this will be difficult, please do join us, as long as you will commit to full participation. Joining a group like ours will definitely help you succeed. If you are not willing to commit to giving it your best shot, this is not the group for you.

Our third focus will be on developing the leadership capabilities of each member in the group. All Christians are called to lead others towards Christ, whether they have known him for ten days or ten years. As such, each member will be asked to lead one discussion session covering their favorite way to read or study the Bible OR their favorite way to pray. Our discussions usually last about 45 minutes and many of our previous members have felt they gained the most from actually leading their own discussion. It doesn’t matter if you have never lead a discussion before, we will be here to help you through it every step of the way.

We know mid-week groups often compete with work schedules, but if you commit to coming, you commit to us. The other members of the group will be counting on you to be here participating. It may be hard to make your boss or coworkers understand, but your spiritual development is more important than your career development, and this can even be a great way to share with your coworkers as it might make your Christianity more visible to the office.

(1) We will focus on the 2019 Bible Reading Plan during our meetings by having discussions based on the weekly readings.

It is my hope that this group will grow in Him through the Word and through genuine fellowship.

* to lead or co-lead the discussion once during the small group term;
* to come to our small group meetings on time;

[THE BOOK OF JOSHUA]
This small group will focus on the book of Joshua. The goal is to examine the life of Joshua to see how he forged the Godly principles as a young leader and how these principles shaped his life as a man of God. As young adults, we are at the stage of forging life principles that will shape us for the rest of our lives. This small group aims to heed to the words of Apostle Paul in 2 Timothy 2:22 – that we forge these principles by fleeing youthful lust and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.
My prayer is that after our weekly fellowship, you will be renewed to be Christ’s disciple in your college dormitory, on the subway to work every morning, classroom, office meetings etc.
Finally, please note that the quality of this small group lies in your proactiveness. The more each individual focuses on serving the other, the more effective this small group will be. So please carefully examine if you can serve your brothers and sisters in any way you are challenged to before signing up. There will be weekly prayer partners to help you stay walking the talk, one-time Membership Training and weekly dinner to help us live out the call to love one another. In a week, expect to devote at least 5 hours to this small group.
