“and let us consider [thoughtfully] how we may encourage one another to love and to do good deeds, not forsaking our meeting together [as believers for worship and instruction], as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more [faithfully] as you see the day [of Christ’s return] approaching.” (Hebrews 10:24-25, AMP)

This group is for those who are seeking a community of peers in love with Jesus, wanting to know God, and desiring to live as guided by the Spirit in every moment.
This group will also spend time in fellowship, breaking bread, encouraging another and sharing good laughter. 🙂 If you are willing to challenge yourself and partake in this journey of growth together with fellow brothers and sisters in Christ, this group is for you.

[UNDERSTAND AND OBEY] 1 space remaining as of TUES 2/4 @ 12pm
What does it mean to know God? As the Scriptures say, And we can be sure that we know him if we obey his commandments. If someone claims, “I know God,” but doesn’t obey God’s commandments, that person is a liar and is not living in the truth.

The goal of this small group is to understand and obey God’s truth and that our lives be conformed to it. Also, as we desire to earnestly seek him, may it cause our hearts to respond to God in praise and in adoration.

The book, Knowing God by J. I. Packer will not just help us with biblical teaching and theology but most importantly it serves to guide us that the end of knowing God is God himself. In the first chapter, Packer very clearly states that;
1. Our aim in studying the Godhead must be to know God himself better.
2. Our concern must be to enlarge our acquaintance, not simply with the doctrine of God’s attributes, but with the living God whose attributes they are. As he is the subject of our study, and our helper in it, so he must himself be the end of it. We must seek, in studying God, to be led to God. It was for this purpose that revelation was given, and it is to this use that we must put it.

For this small group term, may we be encouraged to subject ourselves to the rightful study of the Word and pray that we all grow in the knowledge of God!

[KNOWING GOD DISCUSSION GROUP] closed
Hello,

In Knowing God, J.I. Packer says that knowing about God is crucial for our lives. We will be reading the book with the aim of knowing about God. But it must not end there, we must meditate and pray so that the intellectual knowledge about God leads to a personal knowledge of God. We will be reading the assigned chapter during the week before we come together to discuss the material during the meeting. After the discussion, we will pray for each other.

All the small groups will be going over Knowing God by J. I. Packer. What makes this small group unique is that it will be discussion-based.

[MARRIED COUPLES, ENGAGED, THINKING ABOUT MARRIAGE] closed
Hi!
For this 2020 spring small group term, we will join our fellow brothers and sisters as we read together Knowing God by J. I. Packer.

Read, Meditate, Share
This small group will be oriented toward discussion and community. Since our time together will be geared towards discussion, please be ready to share what God has been speaking to you as we go through the book. In order to build community through fellowship, we will also be sharing about our lives. As the weekly reading amount will generally be a bit long and deep (read: theological), it is expected that we will take a only a small portion of the reading and share that during our discussions with the goal of trying to apply it to our lives as husbands, wives, engaged, dating, and singles (aka not be a lecture-type or theology-debate Bible study).

Focus
This group is focused on how the Word of God has shaped our marriages and lives. Both you and your spouse are highly encouraged to sign up together, and should have no difficulty reading and communicating in English. This group is for those who are married, engaged, dating, single who are thinking about marriage. We hope to have a group of married couples that can mentor those who are thinking or wanting to get married. If you are willing to be open and share honestly how God is working in your life this group might be a good fit for you.

Expectations of SG Time
Members will be expected to:
– Join the weekly SG meetings on Sundays
– Commit to attending them on time
– Be respectable to other people’s time by notifying your absence ahead of time (please try not to be absent).
– Read the weekly reading assigned (Discussion questions* will be provided before each meeting)
– Lead one session. This will be done with your SO (significant other) See it as a spiritual challenge! an opportunity for you both to grow closer together and to God! 2 in 1, no 3 in 1, wow! Hallelujah Amen! We are all potential lay leaders and EVERY couple will take turns leading at least once.
– Pray for your prayer partner(s) within the group and to check in (text, call, or meet up) with your prayer partner(s) at least once throughout the week to encourage each other.

Service
There is an “in-service” activity and an “out-reach” activity to further cultivate fellowship and a spirit of service.

Extra
– Feel free to have lunch on your own, but please come to the cafe and order your drink by 2pm. That way we can start at 2:15pm. The goal is to end by 4:15pm.
The first meeting will be Sunday February 2
– There will be one (or more) FUN DAYs which due to the amount of reading will likely take place outside the scheduled SG meeting time. Please be willing to set aside time join – it is meant to encourage fellowship~ ^^ Will most likely occur 2/8 or 2/15.

*The questions serve as a guide to help facilitate discussion about how God spoke to you through the reading. It is encouraged to write a reflection on the reading in order to make conversation in SG time flow well. Note that if it seems that a member is sharing “too long”, please do not take offense if cut short – we want everyone to have a chance to share.

Tuesdays

[KNOWING GOD IN HAKDONG]
We believe that if what you read in the Bible makes you uncomfortable, either your life or your understanding of the Bible needs to change. Come prepared to challenge your understanding of God and Christianity as we tackle the hard questions in life that J. I. Packer raises in his landmark book.

We will be focusing both on learning about God and learning to know God in practice. Each week we will read through a section of the book along with the rest of the church and will discuss it. We will share fellowship with one another and will learn to discuss hard questions in love–if we want to effectively help the church grow and mature we need to learn how to package the challenging message in a way that others are willing to listen to and can understand. Packer helps us do this with his gentle yet still challenging approach to some of the biggest challenges we face as Christians.

Please try to arrive by 7 pm so we can always finish on time–we know you have busy schedules and we don’t want you to miss out on any of the important parts of being in our group. Please also remember that joining this group is a commitment. You are committing to the other members that you are going to make them and these meetings a priority in your life. If you are available earlier, please feel free to bring your dinner and eat with us before 7pm–more fellowship is a wonderful thing.

Kids are welcome, and for those not used to kids, please be prepared to learn how to deal with the “distraction” that they can be. It’s a good life skill to have anyway, and it doesn’t have to detract at all from your experience.

This group will be start meeting February 4, so there is still time for you to sign up and not miss any meetings.
